12-Year-Old Cyber Security Expert Ruben Paul

Reuben Paul, a 12-year-old from Texas, is a hacker and cybersecurity expert in just 6th grade. Reuben has completely embedded himself in the cybersecurity culture and most of what he does revolves around cybersecurity. Reuben includes cybersecurity in his day-to-day life as he hacks household items to demonstrate how they could be used to spy on and potentially harm people. I think that Reuben hacking into household items is an effective way to demonstrate just how dangerous cyber threats can be because most of the household items he has hacked into are used across the country and people can see that it is directly affecting them. From traveling the world, giving press conferences that inform people on the importance of cybersecurity to hacking into a stuffed bear, Reuben can do it all. Rueben has recently hacked the Cloud Pets teddy bear by turning the bear into a secret recording device. This has shown people that even toys can become a cyber threat and put people in danger. Reuben is often referred to as the “cyber ninja” for good reason. Just seconds after David Begnaud connected to Reuben’s public wi-fi, Reuben was able to tell David his username, email, and password. This is just one of the many reasons Reuben states that he will never connect to a public wi-fi network. Both Bluetooth and wi-fi connections are extremely vulnerable and anyone can hack into them and get your information. Reuben truly has a passion for cybersecurity and hopes to continue pursuing it in the future as he would like to have a career in the NSA or the FBI so that he can play a part in protecting the country against foreign and domestic cyber threats.
