Describe four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals.

When Storing electronic information about an individual, many ethic issues arise. A new age of how your information is stored has evolved to a constant flow of information on the internet which can be accessed in illegal pathways. Privacy and confidentiality, security breaches, system implementation, and data inaccuracies are all common issues. Privacy and confidentiality consists of how information in stored, keeping information to eyes of people who have the need to know and the business use of that information. Personal information is usually viewed by many personnel and the highest confidentiality must be upheld.

Security Breaches are so common these days that the possibility of information being stolen during a security breach is an extremely high possibility. The chance of a security breach impacts the possibility of patient information, personal information or business secrets to be stolen, which can impact all parties involved. Keeping a good security to combat the possibility of a security breach is important, but the idea of what to do in the possibility of a security breach is also very important. What information should be stored? What is the impact on a business or person when involving a breach?

System implementation is also linked to the ethical issues when storing electronic information. If your system was not fortified enough and your system is hit, would your company or personnel be accountable for not implementing your system well enough which can lead to higher repercussions? Making sure your system is fully functional and information is stored securely will be a focal point, especially if the system implementation mistakes were due to insider efforts.

Data inaccuracies are very common in the cyber world which can lead to a very big ethical problem. If information is wrong or misleading it can have a lasting effect on a company or person. Verification of all information is ongoing effort that must be taken seriously, due to the implications it can have moving forward. Not only can inaccurate data be detrimental to someone’s personal life but for a company can lead to legal repercussions, leading to lawsuits and fines in a higher court.
