What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?
The overlap between the criminal justice system and cyber crim is when the crime is found to have caused damage to information involving a person, business or group. When the divide between the systems is breached it is usually found that the cybercrime has been committed. Many of the hackers in the world are very good at what they do and have many ways to hide the breadcrumbs that they leave behind in the midst of hacking. Most of the times when a company is hacked they can only state that it is possible that they were hacked and most of the time seem very unsure of the whole situation and take longer time figuring out what may have been attacked (unless it is a blatant attack to shut down a group, website or service). Usually when cyber crimes are committed it is very hard to find out what even happened or if it happened at all depending on what type of cyber crime was committed. When you spend time matching the other disciplines with the crimes that are being committed you can figure things out in many different ways. Information security will find out what happened and what information or breach occurred. Business will find what affect will be the outcome of the attacks and create a plan for further possibilities. Philosophy will figure out and study why a crime of sorts will be committed and what type of people would commit the crimes, which will lead to a deeper understanding of why things are happening. Engineering and computer sciences pretty much go hand in hand when it involved cyber crimes, usually figuring out ways to combat the types of attacks and where the vulnerabilities lie within the system. When looking at what needs to be done further in this technology driven world all of these disciplines help to evolve the understanding of every aspect of what is happening around us in the mysterious cyber world. All of these things together can make a map of understanding for the future and create a safer world for us all.
