Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

It is interesting to see that many products that help us relate to the central and southern Americas tend to be very simple and made of easily accessible materials. These materials tend to be cheap, for example many traditional dishes from Mexico have very similar ingredients such as tortillas, milk, and cheeses. This is due to the governments assistance program that rations out these ingredients to their poorer citizens. This is not to discredit their incredible craftsmanship as the create wonderful dishes with such limited materials.

Engaging in Communities

As a paramedic I often engage with different communities from around the world, especially those from central and southern America. Understanding how their cultures differ and being able to communicate with them in there native tongue makes all the difference in their ability to trust me as a health care provider.

Interpersonal Communication

During the class we were given the assignment to do 2 talk abroad. I found both experiences very much worth the small price that we paid to partake in the assignment. While each were only about 15 min long it helped improve my interpretive skills along with my ability to form sentences fluently and actually understand the context of the native speaker. overall it was a wonderful experience and I am happy to have participated.

Presentational Speaking

In English, give a brief 2-3-line description of any presentational speaking activities you completed this semester inside or outside of class for or related to your Spanish learning. Include a recording of one of these speaking activities. (See Modes of Communication link for description and examples). 

Then, in a paragraph, write a reflection that includes each presentation you completed in which you explain what challenged you and how you grew and overcame those challenges.  What did you excel at? What/how would you do differently next time? 

Presentational Writing

In class we did two writing assignments that I did have some difficulty preforming especially with the first one. Although I did not prepare nearly as much as I did for the second one. with the preparation I felt I improved greatly and was able to provide an more accurate and meaningful paper.
