I choose the activity from module 3, which was to find an object that I believed represented my culture and I picked out my wigs. I picked them because people use to pick on black girls who wore weave and called us bald when that was never the case, it is just a protective style so we do not have to damage our hair. Now, in 2019 it is “cool” and normal for people from other races and ethnicities to wear them. They do not have to deal with the stereotype’s that black women had to deal with for years. So, from this I learned that cultural norms are constantly changing and never really stay consistent as well as that stereotyping seems to cease about certain situations (wearing weave) when the cultural norms is changed in favor of the use-to-be stereotype.

I picked the activity from module 5, which was about how parenting behaviors and values influence how children become enculturated. With that, we had to reflect how we were raised and if our parent’s values and behaviors made us enculturated. After completing the activity, I came to the conclusion that the way may mother raised me definitely had something to due with how I was enculturated as well as the people I surrounded myself around. From this assignment, I learned how the smallest habits that are done by people in your family or the people you’re around can easily be adopted without you even noticing. I also learned that people from the same race group or ethnicity tend to pick up on the same habits, so the children of these groups end up enculturated.

I picked the activity from module 6, where we had to compare our past experiences to our present self. In order to do that, we had to look back and see if anything significant happened in our childhood that caused us to be the people we are today. For me, I think that fact that my mom was a single mother for majority of my childhood gave me the motivation to accomplish everything I do because my mother was and still is successful in everything she does. Another thing was the fact that whenever she did need help, it was always a strong woman in my family such as my grandmother or aunt that helped her so the drive I had to be just as good or better then men came from her. From this I learned that defeating the odds of gender roles was easy if you have the right mind set and drive to do it.

I picked the activity from module 9, which was to list whether I thought a certain job title was for man or female. I then had to get a partner which I picked a male partner and see what they listed. After completing that, I noticed that most of the higher, “more important”, better paid jobs I listed male and the other ones were left for the women. My partner did the same exact thing as I did and listed the males for higher paying jobs. From this assignment, I learned the gender roles and gender stereotypes are real BUT unrealistic. This is because from history, women were not allowed to work and men did all the working so that stereotype just followed humans until now.

I love meme because it just expresses how I am feeling about specific situations in a certain way that is just like my personality. I picked it because this had to do with gender roles and stereotypes and the most common one is that the man is always suppose to pay.

I choose the activity from module 8, which was about how my behavior in past episodes were not related to my personality. I then had to determine whether my personality is consistent with my behaviors or if it depends on the context of the situation. I believe that your personality should and does stay consistent with your behavior. The context of the situation should not change your personality. From this assignment, I feel like I did not learn much because this was a basic assignment that did not really cause me to think. If anything, I just learned a little bit more about myself.

I picked this because this is the time when I see a lot of girls change their personality just because guys are around to seem more attractive.
