Make a Living

I earned my BA in English from Valparaiso University, my MS in TESOL from Nova Southeastern University, and am earning my PhD in Rhetoric and Composition and Media Studies from Old Dominion University. Go, Crusaders, Sharks, and Monarchs!

I went into teaching because I was awarded the opportunity to teach conversational English when I was 22. I wasn’t looking to be a teacher long term, but I was interested in living abroad. Five minutes into my first lesson, my plans changed forever. I was a teacher from that moment one. After the year I spent teaching in Greece, I came back to the States and started teaching at Culver Academies in the ESOL program.

Since then, my teaching career has taken me many places. I moved to Florida and became a writing tutor and writing/reading adjunct before becoming a full-time learning specialist (lab supervisor) at Palm Beach State College. Ultimately, the Midwest called me home, and now I am an Associate Professor of ENGL/COMM/ESOL at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI.
