I am a junior psychology major with an interest in clinical psychology as a concentration; I’m taking these courses, social and cross-cultural psychology, as a means to explore the various facets of the field of psychology in order to better understand it as a whole, in pieces, and how the pieces connect to form the whole.
My current goals in pursuing this field are to obtain, at least, my a Master’s degree in order to become a licensed clinical therapist for either adolescents ages 15-25 or the elderly population aged 65 and up. These two groups, being vastly different in their trials and tribulations due to position and experience in life, interest me for equally different reasons; adolescents because of my own personal history leading to a deep understanding of the difficulties of suffering abnormal traumas without someone to help you navigate them; and the elderly because of my profound empathy for those who are cast aside and/or forgotten by society and/or family. However, both reasons share a common goal of being there to help those who have no-one else who is willing to do so.
In addition to an interest in psychology, I have always had a fantastic interest in animals- of both the domestic companion and exotic zoological variety- that may manifest itself into an excursion into the world of animal behavior and animal-based therapy before I detainee my Master’s specialization.
