When discussing the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime the similarities are very apparent. Both are used in conjunction of each other and are directly related when combating digital offenses. Criminal justice relies on studying criminals, legal systems and law enforcement while cyber security focuses on the prevention and response of cybercrimes. Due to the ever-evolving landscape of society and how we use technology, cyber crime is inherently more prevalent than ever before; revealing the importance and necessity of criminal justice within the cyber security landscape.  Criminal justice professionals must have the “Know-how” within technology and the cyberspace to investigate, gather information and eventually prosecute. Furthermore, through this this can aid both parties in predicting future attacks and finding the necessary approaches to combating them as well. When addressing some of the disciplines we have learned in our past lessons, criminal justice experts can assist in combating hacking, phishing attacks and malware. While another discipline could be white collar crime; while non violent in nature, can encompass the previous mentioned attacks, including fraud, exploitation and more. Lastly, another overlap would be through digital forensics. Both criminal justice and cybersecurity involve in responding to security incidents like data breaches and conduct investigations to mitigate the threat by analyzing and collecting digital evidence. While law enforcement/digital forensics officials will gather for court proceedings, cyber security experts will assist by providing their expert knowledge within the technical aspects of the cyber incident, essentially feeding off of each other to meet the same end goal.
