{"id":538,"date":"2025-08-20T11:51:50","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T15:51:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/t3-ciders\/?p=538"},"modified":"2025-10-23T10:29:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T14:29:47","slug":"announcement-of-t3-ciders-cohort-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/t3-ciders\/2025\/08\/20\/announcement-of-t3-ciders-cohort-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcement of T3-CIDERS Cohort 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/t3-ciders\/about-us\/\">collaborative T3-CIDERS team<\/a> at Old Dominion University, the University of Arizona, Texas A&amp;M University, and University of Nebraska Omaha is excited to announce the opening of the 2025 cohort of <strong>T3-CIDERS<\/strong>, a \u201ctrain-the-trainer\u201d program to broaden the adoption of HPC and data-intensive techniques in cybersecurity research &amp; education!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><span><mark style=\"font-style: italic\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"> The official registration period has ended. We will be considering late registrations only on a case-by-case basis.<\/mark><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cyberinfrastructure (CI) technologies\u2014ranging from high-performance computing and big data to artificial intelligence\u2014have accelerated research and education in cybersecurity. Yet, a significant skills gap limits the utilization of these powerful tools among many students and researchers. T3-CIDERS is designed to address this need by equipping faculty, researchers, and practitioners to both enhance their own expertise and effectively train future generations of cybersecurity researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cohort 2025 Program Highlights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants accepted into Cohort 2025 will engage in a year-long progression of training and community activities, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pre-training (Fall 2025):<\/strong> Virtual sessions introducing foundational CI and data competencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Winter Institute (January 5\u20139, 2026):<\/strong> A week-long, in-person program at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, focused on hands-on introduction to CI with cybersecurity applications; training on basic pedagogy; and initial planning for CI-infused local training activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Local Training (Spring\/Summer 2026):<\/strong> With support from the T3-CIDERS team, cohort members will plan, develop, and lead training activities within their own institutions and communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Local K-12 Outreach (Spring\/Summer 2026):<\/strong> Optional opportunities to connect with local K-12 schools to raise awareness of CI and cybersecurity research careers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Community Building Activities (ongoing)<\/strong>: Including community webinars, research or CI discussion sessions, and collaborative lesson development activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Collaborative Lesson Development (ongoing):<\/strong> Cohort members will co-create new instructional contents to expand and strengthen the T3-CIDERS training portfolio.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By participating, cohort members will join a growing community-of-practice in cybersecurity research and education, united by the shared goal of advancing CI-powered discovery and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements and Expectations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who can join T3-CIDERS?<\/strong> &#8212; Faculty, researchers, postdocs, and practitioners in cybersecurity &amp; related fields are welcome to participate. Research support staff &amp; HPC\/CI professionals are also invited. Undergraduate\/graduate students can also join if paired to more senior members (e.g. faculty, researchers, etc.). These participants will be called &#8220;<em>Future Trainers<\/em>&#8220;. More details on the requirements can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/t3-ciders\/requirements\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"221\">Requirements page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pairing of Future Trainers<\/strong> &#8212; We pair faculty and students as &#8220;Future Trainer Units&#8221; to facilitate collaboration in preparing the local training event(s). Faculty and senior members are encouraged to bring their own students and engage them throughout the cohort year; if no students are available, we will help pair them with students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Outcomes &amp; Expectations<\/strong> &#8212; We expect that through participation in T3-CIDERS, future trainers will become competent to apply CI techniques such as HPC, big data, machine learning, etc. in their own research. Additionally, each Future Trainer Unit is required to conduct a CI-infused local training at their own institutions.
