Workplace deviance is defined as unethical behavior that violates organizational norms about right and wrong. “As technology has opened up a new space for cyber culture, new forms of deviance and social control has appeared”. An example of work deviance in the cyber security field would be if a company let go one of their employees. Now let’s say this employee has been with this company for years and they just let them go. If the employee were to download information from the company and put it online or sell it to another company. That would be considered to be work deviance. By the employee going behind the company’s back and selling their information they have committed work deviance. So now back to the original question: how has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance? With technology continuing to develop everyday and people learning more about it puts companies at risk. “Advances in technology have resulted in new forms of deviance as well as new forms of control”. The internet facilitates deviance and crime through providing visibility and accessibility on forms of cyber crime. There are other types of workplace deviances such as sexual intimidation and cyber loafing
