For my Don’t Be the Weakest LinkedIn assignment, I got the chance to interview Chuck Walls, Vice President of Player Engagement for the Philadelphia Eagles, and it honestly changed how I see careers in sports. Instead of a paper, I turned the interview into an infographic to make it more engaging and easier to follow.
The biggest thing that stood out to me is that there really is no “typical day” in his job. One day, he is traveling to pro days, the next he is reviewing player reports, talking with the GM, or even working with IT on innovative ideas. It made me realize that working in sports is not just about what happens on the field; it is everything behind the scenes that keeps things running.
One point that really stuck with me is that it is not just about talent; it is about fit. A player can be amazing, but if they do not match the team’s culture or system, it might not work. That connected a lot to what we have been talking about in class with team dynamics and communication.
I also liked hearing about where sports are heading, especially with things like AI and virtual reality starting to play a bigger role. It made me think about how fast the industry is changing and how important it is to be able to adapt.
The advice he gave was my favorite part: do not wait, start now, and be kind to people. Hearing that something as simple as being kind led to a huge opportunity for him really shows how important relationships are in this industry.
Overall, this project made everything feel more real. It was not just class concepts anymore; it was seeing how it plays out in someone’s career. Making the infographic helped bring it all together in a way that feels interesting, easy to understand, and worth sharing.
