Charles Walls, Vice President of Player Personnel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For my Sport Professional Penpal assignment, I wanted to connect with someone who works directly in player personnel and talent evaluation. As a graduate student in communications and a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan, I have always been interested in how teams are built, especially how scouting, drafting, and roster decisions shape a championship organization. When thinking about who to reach out to, one name immediately came to mind: Charles Walls<\/strong>, Vice President of Player Personnel for the Eagles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Walls and I were already connected on Instagram, and I knew he worked for the Eagles organization. As soon as this assignment was introduced, I thought, \u201cHe is the one I need to ask.\u201d Because we were already connected on social media, I felt comfortable reaching out through a direct message. I explained that I am a graduate student in communications and shared the description of the Sport Professional Penpal project. I asked respectfully if he would be willing to serve as my professional contact throughout the semester. Although the message was informal in format, I made sure it was professional, clear, and appreciative of his time. When he agreed, I was both grateful and excited for the opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Walls enters his fourth season with the Eagles and his 13th overall in the NFL. During the 2024 off-season, he was promoted to Vice President of Player Personnel after originally joining the organization\u2019s scouting department as Director of Player Personnel in 2022. During his time in Philadelphia, he has contributed to two Super Bowl appearances (LVII and LIX), including the Eagles\u2019 victory over Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before joining the Eagles, Walls served as a national scout for the Cleveland Browns from 2020\u20132022 and previously worked his way through the Green Bay Packers\u2019 scouting department from intern to area scout. In 2023, he joined the executive board of National Football Scouting (NFS), which evaluates college players and helps coordinate the NFL Scouting Combine. He is a graduate of Old Dominion University, where he played offensive line and later worked on the coaching staff while earning his degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked about his favorite moment so far in his career, he shared: \u201cMy favorite moment has undoubtedly been winning the Super Bowl! Just reflecting on all the work and sacrifice it took leading up to that moment. Knowing it would change all of our lives. The parade to follow. It was all unbelievable.\u201d<\/em> His reflection highlights not only the achievement itself, but also the dedication, teamwork, and sacrifice required to reach that level of success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This connection is meaningful because it allows me to learn from someone who plays a direct role in building an NFL roster. As a communications graduate student, I am especially interested in how leadership, evaluation, and strategic messaging operate within a professional sports organization.
