Design thinking is a very important module that I believe will help me with the rest of this course. The definition provided in the module describes design thinking as, “a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success” (Timi Brown, President and CEO of IDEO).
One of the most important concepts I took away from this module is timeboxes. Timeboxes provide a visual way to divide time amongst tasks that need to be completed. I think this is very important because if you don’t provide an amount of time to work on one task, you might spend too much time working on one task and not have time to finish anything else. This is important to me because I sometimes have a difficult time managing my time. By using timeboxes, hopefully I can stay organized through this project and get tasks done while still having time to finish other tasks. The example of timeboxes from the module looks like:
Monday 20 min PM | Tuesday 20 min PM | Wednesday 20 min AM | Thursday20 min PM | Friday 20 min AM |
I plan to use the elements from the design thinking framework to work on my proposal. First I’ll start by asking myself “What can I develop for the purpose of (reducing cyber threats)? Next, I’ll re-write my question and consider the design limitations and users’ limitations. The next step is to consider if the challenge is too narrow or too broad.
