Cookie Text is a business created by Jeanne Fiocca where they take any text message and print it on a cookie. Jeanne was born in Hampton, Virginia and attend school in New York. Throughout her speech, Jeanne explains that she has been on her own since both of her parents died and how being on her own has motivated her to work hard for what she wants.
While raising her 3 boys, Jeanne says she was the #1 person to go to for volunteer opportunities. Any school activity, after-school activity, extracurricular activity, Jeanne was on top of it, providing snacks, rides, support, and of course baking birthday cakes. When her boys graduated from school, Jeanne found herself still volunteering, but she noticed that it was becoming more expensive, especially because she didn’t have a job. The one thing she still enjoyed doing, though, was baking cakes for friends and family. Jeanne finally decided to interview for an occupational therapy job, since that was her major. However, when she walked in, she realized that occupational therapy was not what she enjoyed anymore. What Jeanne enjoyed was giving to other people. More specifically, she enjoyed baking and giving cookie cakes to people. Jeanne then had the idea to put messages on these cookies and cookie cakes. From her idea in May, Jeanne created her first product in October.
When describing the process of creating her business, Jeanne explains that the key to her business is knowing all of the different steps it takes to create a business and to never give up. Jeanne’s message about not giving up really relates to a module I just went over, ‘Dealing with Failure’. Jeanne questioned herself many times during the beginning process but she never gave up and out of it came a very successful business.
3 Things I learned from Jeanne
- If you mess up, you mess up. Life goes on and it is okay to fail. If you keep pushing through, then something good is bound to come out in the end
- Don’t keep pursuing something that does not bring you joy. Jeanne could have taken the occupational therapy job, but she most likely would have been miserable. Now, she’s doing something that she loves while making money at the same time.
- We is better than I: Jeanne talks about how she has a great team and support system which has helped her business grow. It’s okay to ask for help and have support from people.
