Exploring Culture
I have learned many things about the cultural differences between the South American countries compared to the United States. In South America, people are very family oriented. Most of the people still believe that the man is the main supporter in the house, and the woman is supposed to take care of the children and the house.
Engaging in Communities
In English, give a brief description of the value of, and importance of, engaging in your immediate community and the global community. I believe it is very important to be involved in your community. It is important to care about your community and take care of your community. In Hispanic cultures, they care about their commented greatly. It sees like they care a lot about each other and want to take care of their community.
Interpersonal Communication
In Spanish 102, I had a couple of conversations through the TalkAbroad program. I learned many things from my conversations. I talked to a lady from El Salvador named Mariam. I thought that it would be difficult speaking with someone that doesn’t speak any English. But the lady that I talked would help me if I didn’t exactly understand what she was saying.
In my TalkAbroad conversations, I learned many things about Mariam. I learned that she has a huge family, that she loves hamburgers and French fries, does not like mathematics, loves art, her mom is very social, and her dad is very quiet. After I got done with my conversations with Mariam, I learned to listen to key words verses trying to understand the whole sentence. This is how I was able to overcome some of my issues understanding whoever I am having a conversation with. By the time I had my conversations with Mariam, I had improved on being able to ask questions and answer questions. I have improved with how to conjugate verbs in sentences, and how to understand the person speaking.
