I am interested in cybersecurity technology because it is a rapidly and ongoing threat to not only the United States, but to the world as a whole. My dad served in the Navy for 21 years and now works in a security-based defense job where he tests out defense systems on ships before they are sent out for deployment. I think that is really interesting because it is important to be prepared for physical attacks, such as missile and torpedo threats, but it is also important to be prepared for a cyber attack. A cyber attack on a ship, for instance, could just shut down an entire weapons system. I think that cybersecurity is a great career choice because so many businesses must value it to thrive. I previously took a coding course in high school and found it to be interesting but a lot of fun because I made certain things happen and take place all on my own free will. Being able to take that skill and apply it to a meaningful business would make me feel like I am accomplishing something and providing my share of helpfulness in society. I have had a computer for a long time and always wondered things like, for example how does (for instance, Webroot) this software actually defend my computer from intrusions or messages that I do not want? How can I actually go into this software program and make it help somebody’s device? Being able to tap into a laptop or a desktop or any electronical device and being able to help somebody in a big way would make me feel very accomplished. Again, I think cybersecurity is an ongoing topic in today’s society and is proven to be increasingly more important and valued by businesses and individuals all around the globe. Something as simple as having a virus on your computer to having an entire network shut down is extremely frustrating, and I would love to be able to help prevent that.
