Many countries have experienced a rapid increase in how many women are obtaining and thriving in leadership roles, more increasingly in Spain. Despite this progress, women are still subject to sexual harassment which includes inappropriate statements or actions and are still treated as though they just exist in the room as more of a “symbol” for a change, but are not expected to have any real opinions. Hopefully there will be a more positive change for this, but in my research it seems as though an economic crisis could cause a country to revert.

Assignment 4 Takeaway

Women and men are definitely portrayed differently in advertisements. Women are often over sexualized, even when the product itself isn’t necessary sexy. This can include burgers, candy bars and beers. Men, while not particularly sexualized, are stereotyped into the “typical male roles”. This can include that men in roles where they play sports or need a strong product because men are strong. I don’t watch TV and therefore do not see advertisements, but it’s definitely important for the way advertisements are constructed to be appropriate and not sexualizing products in a effort to attract potential customer.

Assignment 3 Takeaway

For this assignment I chose a blog written by a young lady who traveled to India. She documented the emotional aspect of her experience which included her own personal struggle with mental illness and how this trip made an impact. She also discussed the poverty and how complicit the individuals who resided there are and almost accept this as their normal way of life. Lastly she discussed the oppression of females and her own opinion of that experience. This was somewhat relevant to me as my brother recently went on a trip to India and I was curious to see the how a male interpreted this trip versus a female. I did feel like the overall feeling of the trip was the same, in that they both had a wonderful time and found the locations they visited to be beautiful, warm, and welcoming. The differences were definitely their mood (my brother had more positive things to share) and their ideas of how females are treated in this country.

Assignment 5 Takeaway Image Credit: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/234372 Women have definitely increased in presence when it comes to the workforce and most importantly in leadership roles in government.
