Exploring Culture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spanish 101 taught me a variety of contexts related to Hispanic culture. Since half of my family is Puerto Rican, it helped me to gain a deeper appreciation of my culture (mi cultura). For years, I tried to study this language seriously so I could speak Spanish outside of school. My perspective of Hispanic culture and language is that it’s beautiful. Their way of communication is expressed through expression(similar to English)To practice this, we discussed pronunciation and communication in class. As an example, we partnered up with classmates to create responses to questions to practice communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engaging in Communities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of this class, I was able to engage more with my grandma whose first language is Spanish. In addition, I had the opportunity to interact with classmates I didn\u2019t know in a fun and interesting way. Although I did not fully understand Spanish before, this course gave me the ability to be more engaged in my Hispanic heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interpersonal Communication<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

In both of my oral presentations, I did have difficulty remembering what to say and the pronunciation of certain vocabulary. In order to overcome this challenge, I practiced with my grandma every day (whenever she was available).With pronunciation,I would slowly say the word.For example, I experienced problems with the word “librer\u00eda”.Because of this ,I repetitively said this word until I got it right during my practice. In addition ,I noticed that I became uncontrollable nervous when talking in a different language.However, on a daily basis, I made sure to incorporate Spanish in my conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presentational Speaking<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In class, i had the opportunity to speak to my teacher through one-on-one interviews. Over time, I noticed I became better with my formation of sentences and pronunciation. Also, in my second project, I had to discuss my college life.I did find this challenging because there was a substantial amount of content to remember. To overcome this, I studied with my family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second presentation, our assignment was to choose three places on campus that we liked and discuss things we didn’t like. Since I understood what needed to be done, the overall completion of this project was quite easy. Additionally, my pronunciation of certain words and placement of my subject or noun has greatly improved. However, I had to practice my memory when recording the video. For example, moving forward, I need to keep in mind what I intend to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presentational Writing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As seen in the writing below,I have made a tremendous amount of improvement. Although in my second writing I did, I struggled with writing the phone number in Spanish(I did overcome this problem).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
