There are many ethical issues that come with storing electronic information on people. The first is making sure that the information is private. Making sure that the information is private and confidential means that the information can only be seen by those who are authorized to see it. There is all types of personal, medical, and all other types of information that companies have about people, so the companies need to make sure that the information is harder to access for those not allowed, and can only be shared to those who are on a need to know basis. Another ethical issue that arises is making sure that the data that is being held is correct. Whether it is putting it into a system correctly, keeping it maintained, and making sure that the information is not compromised, making sure that the data is actually correct and up to date. If the information is incorrect, it may be very hard to find out how that happened, possibly causing a cyber security threat and possible danger to the individual whose information is incorrect. A third ethical issue that goes a little bit with the second issue is making sure that the information is secured. Doing things such as having secure systems, two factor authentication, having backups, installing a firewall in the system with all of the information. Making sure that the information you have is actually secured and is not easily accessible or easy to hack is probably the most important thing you need to be doing when you have personal information on people. The final ethical issue is making sure that the system that all of the information is in is inside of the proper system and is where it is suppose to be. Companies need to make sure that where they store peoples information is a good place to store it, and does the things that it needs to do.
