Week 3

Storing electronic information about individuals can result in very bad ethical issues and problems if breached. One of the issues is that one’s privacy can be jeopardized by security breaches. This can go really bad if important information is breached by hackers; especially if it is in a doctor’s office or somewhere as important. They have all the information they will ever need, which gives hackers an advantage if they leak that information. They can take someone’s social security number, card numbers, personal information, and more, and with that information, they can steal your identity and money. They can inappropriately misuse data. Also, due to improper networks, individuals’ private information stored in health records can be destroyed. If the information were to get “ lost” somewhere it can not be recovered from the internet. If the structures of the system are not adequately maintained by the users and need to be adjusted. Individuals who work to keep private information need people they can trust and rely on to store their information. It is very important that you trust the people you give your information to. In today’s world, there are people who would risk their job for money and sell your information for a profit. It is important before you give your information out you should ask, who has access to my information? How is my data stored? And what security measures do they take to be conscious of breaches? Workers and individuals who have the power to access information need to be monitored constantly by someone higher to make sure that information doesn’t get stolen. The lack of ethical and professional business when dealing with personal information in a business or organization will negatively impact the reputation of that business. Another issue is that if a business does get hacked or the information gets leaked, they are supposed to let their customers know. A lot don’t because lawsuits come into play and that business would lose a ton of money on top of all the information that was stored. Lastly, storing individuals’ information in an unlawful manner and either stealing their identity or selling their information to someone, they should carefully check the companies reputation and policies, so their identities don’t get stolen.
