I will be comparing the U.S and Japan. After reading this article, it shows just how behind Japan is to other countries like the U.S. The title of the article is “ How japan’s new cybersecurity strategy will bring the country up to par with the rest of the world.” This just shows that although they are working on it, they are still very behind on cybersecurity. The U.S takes cybersecurity very seriously. Japan has more of a cybersecurity risk due to the fact that only 50% of Japanese companies do risk assessments. “only 55 percent of Japanese companies conduct cybersecurity risk assessments, compared to roughly 80 percent in the United States and 65 percent in Europe.” The U.S takes cybersecurity and technology in general very seriously. It is crucial that not only the government is protected but the U.S as a whole. The U.S does a very good job at informing the public about cybersecurity attacks, how to prevent them, and what to do if it happens to you. The U.S has one of the best military personnel. It is very important for the high-class information they have stored to stay safe from attacks. “To address these challenges, Japan’s new cybersecurity strategy will encourage the industry to invest more in cybersecurity for business operations, risk management, and innovation.” Right now if an attack happened to a japan business they wouldn’t know what to do or how to fight it. Japan is currently working on improving its strategies, communication with companies, and prioritizing to prevent cyberattacks. They are using the NIST framework as a baseline for this cybersecurity strategy. Overall, both countries have risks involved with cybersecurity the difference is that the U.S has been prioritizing the safety of the government, businesses, and people while Japan is just now trying to prevent risk from happening. Japanese government stated, “To encourage better cybersecurity practices, Tokyo will also reduce companies’ corporate tax if they can prove that their IT investments, including efforts to automate and introduce new internet of things tools, will improve their productivity and include cybersecurity measures.” This is a great way to encourage people to participate to better their community as a whole.
