In the past, crimes were mainly committed face to face by the offenders. Now that technology is more advanced crimes are also committed online rather than just in person. Due to the advancements in technology, cybercrimes can happen through laptops, smartphones, tablets, apple watches, and any device that has the advancements to have access to the internet. Hackers are smart when it comes to tricking people. They target people who are naive and tend to focus on older people who will fall for their tricks. The more advancements in technology the more offenders are committing crimes and victims are being more affected. Cybercriminals can do just as much damage if not even more in the cyber world. Crimes between offenders and victims can vary. Crimes can vary from fraud, harassment, invasion of privacy, sex crimes, and cyberwar. Cyberwar offenders can cause a lot of damage to higher powers and can affect not only one person but thousands. Victims who are involved in cybercrimes can be very damaged psychologically. Not knowing who is doing this or watching you is very scary and can impact a persons day to day life. When cybercriminals gain access to companies’ software and steal their information or money they can sell it to make a big profit. This is considered robbery even though it happened online and not in person. A cybercriminal can still be punished for robbery and if not be charged more due to the criminal behavior it takes to access that information and what information was breached. Cyber technology has changed the way people are victimized in today’s world. A crime can happen and you might not be affected until weeks later. That is the scary thing about cyber offenders. Teaching communities how to protect themselves and recognize when a cybercrime could be happening to them is important. Cybercrime will continue to become more popular as technology advances and stopping offenders before they strike is the main goal.
