Textual Practice: D’An on VR
D’An writes, “How do we compose in virtual spaces? How are we composed in virtual spaces? To what degree do sensory information and perception determine the world we construct, the worlds we write in code and shadows? The answers depend on how we parse and produce the terms virtual and reality. Virtual Reality (VR) is a text that is composed primarily of cognition and perception. And it is jointly rendered in experience. The material, aesthetic, and narrative engagement of this textual practice will be explored through both historical to current theory and practice. Touching on many connections to past and present works we’ve covered this semester, negotiations of authorship condense into new semiotic identities in VR that are distinctively crafted in this multimodality, surpassing mere representation.”
