Introduction: Learning Spanish is a great opportunity to take because of the ways it can advance me professionally and personally. In a world where Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language, I feel it should be absolutely necessary to learn that language. My intentions for learning Spanish is to gain the ability to have a 2nd language and use those skills to broaden my language barrier. As I say again, I believe that learning Spanish is a opportunity to not miss as it is very similar to English at times and is also one of the most popular languages spoken.
Experience: My experience in Spanish is very limited due to me only have completed Spanish 101 at this time. After finishing Spanish 101 though, I’m eager to take Spanish 102 and broaden my skills in Spanish. I hope to speak to other Spanish speakers to learn how they speak and apply it to my way of speaking Spanish as hearing and communicating in another language is the best way to learn it.
Discipline: Learning these basic concepts in Spanish 101 required me to have to study and communicate with the other students in class. We learned a lot about globalization and diversity through the various assignments in LingroLearning. Examples of this include the various assignments about researching a place in Central America and learning what they do regarding taking naps or even social media usage.
Transfer: As an intended major in Technical Writing, this major requires me to use English in various different ways. Even though the major is primarily focused on English, having these skills in Spanish may even broaden my vocabulary in both languages and maybe even get a position with my Spanish speaking skills. For example, having these skills in Spanish may increase my audience outreach and globalization with the business I do end up working for.
Integrated Communication:
>Exploring Culture: Gaining an understanding of cultural practices like formal greetings and formal communication helped me gain the ability to switch between two ways of speaking Spanish.
>Speaking and Pronunciation: After learning how to correctly pronounce the Spanish alphabet and learning how words sound, I feel very confident in the way I pronounce Spanish.
>Interpretive Listening: Using LingroLearning massively helped me with learning Spanish as It allowed me to prepare for class and even gave us tons of practice if we needed help on a certain topic.
>Interpersonal Communication: During Spanish class, we would engage in a ton of communication within the students which ultimately helped me build my skills in confidently talking to someone in Spanish.
>Writing in Spanish: Written assignments helped me with remembering how to spell certain words and how to structure sentences in Spanish in general.
>Interpretive Reading: Reading assignments helped me with seeing how sentences are structures and what words are used in order to communicate in Spanish.
Self-Assessment and Reflection: Overall, I feel like I’ve learned a lot in Spanish 101 and gave me a basic understanding of the language. I’m excited to further strengthen my skills in Spanish 102 and use the skills in the future.
