My name is Thomas Mayfield and I am prior active duty Navy and current Naval Reserves rated as a Submarine Sonar Technician (STS) Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5). Prior to my separation from active duty I was stationed at the US Navy Submarine Torpedo Facility in Yorktown, Virginia. And prior to receiving orders there, I served aboard the USS Nevada SSBN 733 (nuclear ballistic missile submarine) for 5 years.
While serving aboard the USS Nevada, I received extensive training on the AN/BQQ-10 (V) A-RCI and AN/BQQ-6 sonar systems and its associated components and maintenance procedures, including common server and networking issues. Our sonar system utilized four different network types that I’ve received formal training on, these include Fiber Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-SX), Copper Fast Ethernet (100Base-T), Fiber Asynchronous Transfer Mode (OC-3), and Fiber Channel (1GFC). In addition to this we also utilized a Cisco Catalyst series 3550-12G network switch for our server network. Over the course of the last three years at the Naval Submarine Torpedo Facility I have become a certified MK48 heavyweight torpedo technician/quality assurance inspector and have completed three Torpedo Ordnance Certification inspections with zero deficiencies.
I am an experienced technician capable of applying technical knowledge to solve problems by interpreting manuals and detailed documents. I’m familiar with administrative procedures and can assemble, service, and repair equipment while understanding how to conduct tests and record, analyze, and extract data. Qualifications include:
• DOD Top Secret Security Clearance (SCI Eligible)
• Completed Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives Screening
• Ordinance Handling Qualifications
• Explosive Handler Physical
• 9 Years of Technical Experience (Military)
• Quality Assurance Qualifications
