Gender roles are prevalent within advertisements. But there are huge cultural differences between North America and India. In North America we are starting to see more inclusiveness than we do in India. We see may gay couples, women doing hard labor work, and men being household caretakers. In India, we see women being degrade see either mainly for sex or home caretakers only. This assignment showed me that not all cultures are at the same level as us when it comes to gender roles and norms. This is relevant to me because I constantly witness the implied de norms on television and in ads. It connects me because I want to see more inclusion within the commercial business. This assignment highlights sex and sexuality being perceived differently in different cultures. Sex is embraced within the Indian culture but only in a good way with men. I was able to apply this to the module of culture and gender.

I decided to use this image because it highlights how men are suppose to be tough and even smell tough.

The student that I examined study abroad in Ghana. She expressed the differences in Ghana and the united states. This included religion, transportation, and the citizens their selves. She also highlighted her connection to the people within Ghana. She was able to still feel at home because she could connect to people that looked like her and could giver advice on her religion. I learned that people have connections in many ways no matter in the world. People suffer from many of the same insecurities and difficulties. I can apply this to other courses by being more open to learning more and connecting the information to myself. I can relate to this assignment because I also feel like the odd ball out due to my race. It would be nice to be surrounded by people who understands your pain and how you feel.

I chose this image because the main take away from the students blog was that she could connect to black people who look like her in a different country and was able to relate to them.

Individualism and privacy are prevalent within American Culture. Individualism is individuals focusing on their own goals and values. Privacy is the control of personal information and also separation of others.
This assignment taught me how different America culture is from the rest of the world. I didn’t know that privacy wasn’t common throughout the world. It is a necessity here in America. This is relevant to me because I practice this in my daily life. I focus on my goals and tend to keep my life private. I focus on achieving things that I want and benefits me. I am going to college to gain a career and take tests to benefit me. I don’t strive for others to reach their goals.

This picture represents privacy. It demonstrates protection. This is a different take of privacy. Keep your personal items and personal information locked away for protection.

I am in the fourth stage of intercultural sensitivity. The fourth stage is acceptance. This stage includes recognition of different cultures and that cultures have different perspectives that must be respected and valued. I associate with this stage because I recognize my own culture while also intrigued with other cultures. I search other cultures and strive to learn more about other them in depth. I like to connect deeper with individuals on their beliefs and relate them to my own.
This Assignment taught me that there are different stages of culture understanding. Each stage gradually increases with understanding and acceptance. This assignment is relevant to me because I just recently met a friend from another country. We decided to connect with each other online before meeting in person. We both described our personal experiences and connect with each other on the similarities. We became great friends and even workout out together every week. This image highlights each stage in a descriptive way. The image includes a boy closed off. He increasingly becomes more open to the idea and beliefs in each stage. The also gives a short and easy description of each stage. This is beneficial because it helps understand the concept more clearly.
