My writing has became way better. I am comfortable with how I write. I am willing to write more. I still struggle with my procrastination. I believe that I was able to achieve many of the course objectives such as developing critical thinking skills and applying them to this course and developed a understanding of other cultures. My attitudes towards this course have changed. I’ve have became more open to learning about cultures and seeing the differences between my culture and others. I would prepare myself better if I took this class again. A skill that I will use outside of this class is my critical thinking skills. I am able to notice dfferent expressions of others and why. I am also able to communicate with people from different cultures in a positive way.

https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/08/01/research-suggests-students-may-make-more-academic-progress-focusing-task-oriented

I chose this image because these are how my grades would typically look. I would do really well on my blogs and short assignments while I would receive an average score on the writing assignments.

Blog 9

The top three things that I have learned is this course are individualism, gender roles, and the neo personality test. Blog 7 is very much related to ATA4. In blog 7 I expressed gender roles that were exposed in Disney movies . In blog 7, I expressed how the representation of women and males are stereotypical but there are many movies that break that stereotype. I applied this in ATA4. In ATA4, I expressed gender roles in advertisements. Culture and language can be connected to my child psychology class. In Cross-Cultural Psychology, infants produce the same range of phonemes across cultures and infants sound is shaped by interactions with others. In child psychology, language of infants is highlighted on how language develops and the meaning behind the language and sounds.

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/140456082105968356/

Blog 8

People from different cultures tend to have different expressions than in my culture. I’ve noticed that people from different cultures may not express happiness right away. They tend to give a straight face more often than not when speaking, unlike my culture. People express themselves with smiles when communicating within my culture. This surprised me at first. It was something that I just wasn’t use to and I immediately felt like they other person didn’t like me for that reason. Cultural display rules definitely explains my experiences. Due to the fact that my culture expresses most of their expressions on the face because we learn that as children. People from other cultures may not learn the same “rules” I did, which is why they may not express things externally like me.

https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2011/09/facial-expressions

Blog 7

Most fairytales in Disney typically show women in set gender roles. This includes women doing household duties such as cleaning, cooking, and finding love. While they show men as the savior. They also typically involve morals. At the end of each fairytale you learn a lesson. There are many Disney films that try and break gender roles such as Mulan, brave, and even tangled. These fairytales allow people to see the change in cultural norms. I identified with Mulan the most from the movie Mulan. She was a tough women that decided to go to war to protect her father. She made me want to be strong and do tough things as well.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamiewareham/2020/08/21/why-this-charming-gay-fairytale-has-been-lost-for-200-years-stith-thompson/?sh=195e3bcb6163

Blog 6

I am able to satisfy my need for autonomy by reflecting my past assignments. I am available to do certain things that are beneficial for everyone. This was amazing for me and made me feel very great. There were clearly some questions that I was stumped on. Being able to see past questions was extremely helpful. This helped me realized what information I should have spent extra time studying for. I could have started studying a week in advanced instead of starting to study 3 days before the test. This would have mad sure I knew all of the material better. I didn’t take any personal notes and studied harshly from the PowerPoint that I was given. I watched my grandmother get cancer and took on the responsibility to care for her. It made me think of others that go though the same situation as me. Caring for people unconditionally is a life value of mine. I connect this to nursing because you must care for others no matter what. My parents were unable to go to college due to the fact that simply couldn’t afford it. Yet, they both were able to work very hard and they found away to save money for me in order to attend college. My parents play a huge role in my ability to attend college. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to go or afford it on my own.

Study Habits

This image was chosen to represent me studying for a crucial test.
