Professionals in this field utilize these principles to help anticipate risks that come from people. A specific role that one could hone in on is the cybersecurity analyst. This field utilizes social science concepts like objectivity and ethical neutrality and depends on these ideas to help educate users on safe practices when using technological equipment, as well as helping predict risk factors in the cyber realm and implementing protective measures also. Analysts integrate social science theories when developing cybersecurity practices which helps areas in the cyber realm stay safe, but also helps protect all of society. This paper explores how these principles help cyber analysts, as well as displaying their impact on society and marginalized groups.
Objectivity is important in the world of cybersecurity because of how it prevents the use of personal bias to study threats. It is essential to ensure their work remains fair and accurate. “… maintaining objectivity and impartiality is crucial for the integrity of your work and the trust of your stakeholders.” (linkedIn) No one is going to want to hire a person who passes judgment on the people associated with what they encounter while doing their work. To be specific, implementing objectivity helps reduce personal biases and subjective judgments that would otherwise compromise the reliability of risk assessments (Metin, 2024)
Similar to objectivity we have ethical neutrality which is also essential for analysts. Ethical neutrality is “what separate cybersecurity professionals from hackers… while the latter tries to steal data, the former tries to protect it.” (Online, 2023 ) When cybersecurity analysts are ethically neutral, “… cybersecurity professionals collaborate and share information to respond quickly to attacks.” (Online, 2023) This moral integrity is what distinguishes cyber analysts from hackers with malicious intent. Hackers want to steal information for personal gain while analysts want to keep the info they protect safe.
In conclusion, cybersecurity heavily relies on social science principles, such as concepts like objectivity and ethical neutrality. They use these principles to ensure the cyber space they take care of is as secure and accurate as possible.

References

L. (2024, June 24).
