Many majors at ODU can relate and connect to cybersecurity some of these being ethics, criminal justice, psychology, and computer engineering. These four separate majors are not cybersecurity but having them would help you within the cybersecurity field. The first major being ethics is very important even in cybersecurity itself. You need a strong moral background and a good understanding of what’s widely accepted to be wrong and right because in cybersecurity you are going to have access to a lot of important information and it’s important to know how to use those powers appropriately and not to cause harm. Criminal justice is almost just as important as ethics. This field can help you understand laws more in depth which will ultimately help in the long run. Understanding these laws can help you from making sure you don’t break any laws to knowing if someone else is breaking laws which is important for any field with “security” in the title. The third major that could help you within cybersecurity is psychology. Psychology does not play a huge role like criminal justice or ethics but it can still positively affect you knowing some things they teach. Knowing how people act and how the brain works you can better predict the things they will do online which can better help safeguard the things you are protecting. The last of the four majors that relate to cybersecurity is computer engineering. Knowing how computers work from the hardware to the software I can only imagine helps you in your job in cybersecurity. Being able to know and understand how different softwares works and react with things on computers and what dangerous hardware looks like as well. These four majors that ODU offers relate to cybersecurity in one way or another and cybersecurity majors would benefit from knowing things offered by these courses.
