This can be answered with one word, cryptography, the art of solving or writing codes. First, one should define what authenticity and integrity are. Authenticity is, very simple, a quality of being authentic. Integrity is the quality of being honest or unity depending on context. Now, what is cryptography? One who knoweth not about this topic may ask this. Cryptography is the art of solving or writing codes. Lets continue, how can cryptography help us with authenticity and integrity. So, how can the art of solving or writing codes, by book definition, help us in terms of “authenticity and integrity”. Well, cryptography actually ensures, with means of surety, that the integrity or “honesty” of data with means of hashing algorithms and message digest. We learned earlier that cryptography is the art of “writing codes” hence through the means of providing codes and digital keys, it ensures what is sent is “genuine” and “legit” as sent from the sender. Cryptography helps the verification of the identity of what was sent, as said earlier. How? Well actually by the means of digital certificates and signatures, it confirms the senders authenticity. What else does cryptography do to help with authenticity and integrity? One can say, by “data confidentially”. To explain further, cryptography actually employs encryption algorithms to convert sensitive data, code wise. We can also talk about (MACs). Now, one may ask, “what does MACs stand for?” MAC is message authentication codes. As similar to as stated earlier, MAC authenticates the origin and integrity of messages. All in all, cryptography has a diverse set of skills to help with the authenticity and integrity of digital data.

The overlap exist in many areas such as law enforcement and law investigation, international collaboration, legal frameworks and legislation, victim support and protection, and policy and strategy development. It all play a part in the meaning of “cybersecurity” “online security” which the class is about.
