Communication Skills
Before I started college I always had problems with communication skills due to lack of confidence. It was until I took Public Speaking and French. Public Speaking gave me the confidence to speak in front of a crowd, how to prepare and organize a speech, and engage with my audience. When I took French, I did not know the language or how to speak it. As time passed, I got a better understanding of the French language and how to write in it. These are the three artifacts that helped me improve my communication skills. The first artifact is a historical speech about Winston Churchill’s most famous speech “Their Finest Hour”. When doing this assignment, I learned a lot about this speech because it demonstrated how strong of a leader and great public speaker that Winston Churchill. I chose this artifact because it was one of favorite assignments that I did in Public Speaking. The second artifact I chose was a descriptive speech I did in Public Speaking. For this assignment, I had to describe an important moment in my life, so I wrote about when I was part of the yearbook staff in high school with my friends. I wrote about the process we went through making the yearbook. I chose this artifact because I was able to describe one of my favorite memorable moments. The third artifact I chose was a reflection assignment on a time that I had a exciting weekend. For this assignment, I wrote about a time that I had exciting weekend when I stayed with my uncle. I chose this artifact because I had the opportunity to reflect on a exciting time in my life. Each of these artifacts are important to me because they reflect on moments of my life and express them to other people.
Research Skills
I always felt that I needed improvement on my research skills. When I took a cyber policy, interdisciplinary theories and concepts , and windows systems management and security course, I was able to broaden my research skills. The three artifacts that I chose are important because I was able to take my research skills to the next level. The first artifact is a research paper on cybersecurity policies and strategies that I did for my cyber policy course. I was able to learn about the various policies and strategies that many organizations had to adhere to. The second artifact I chose was research notes that I took on the effects of unemployment on an individual for my interdisciplinary theories and concepts course. I was able to improve on my notetaking skills also. The third artifact I chose was a research paper about digital safety and social networking in cybersecurity. This artifact was very important to me because I had to get deeper in my research skills to make an connection between cybersecurity, digital safety, and social networking. Each of these artifacts are important to me because I was able to expand my research skills when doing them.
Teamwork Skills
I always tend to work well in teams or groups. I really enjoy working in teams or groups because it’s great to hear other people perspectives and put ideas together. I just wanted to expand my teamwork skills. By taking interdisciplinary theories and concepts and information literacy research course I was able to do that. The first artifact is a group research paper I did on how automation is transitioning the workforce for my interdisciplinary theories and concepts course. As a group, we had the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss what information we wanted to incorporate within our paper. The second artifact I chose was a group outline assignment that I did for my information literacy research course. For this group assignment, my group and I organized an outline for a research paper about the effects of homelessness in the US. The third artifact I chose was the research paper about the effects of homelessness in the US which I did with my group in the information literacy research course. Each of these artifacts showed me the foundation of working in a team and how it can be a learning experience for each group member.
