With all of this being said, cybersecurity analysts’ role expands
into understanding human behaviors, social systems, and broader social context, the
areas grounded into our social science. This paper will explore how cybersecurity analysts
use social science in their research and in their daily work, especially to behavioral
statistics, some ethics, diversity, and how they protect marginalized communities
The core responsibility of a cybersecurity analyst is to identify and mitigate threats, which
are mostly rooted from human error and/or manipulation. One of the most common
attacks methods comes from social engineering, which exploits humans’ minds to trick an
individual to give up some type of confidential information. It is critical to understand why
people fall for these phishing scams, and how trust is, and can be easily manipulated
online. This requires knowledge of sociology, behavioral science, and psychology.

Cybersecurity analysts frequently rely on social science research to design more effective
training programs the addresses these people’s weaknesses, and where they fall for these
such scams. For example, applying psychology helps the analyst predict how people are
going to respond to certain messages and alerts. If they can understand these patterns,
analysts can build better awareness and interfaces that guide safe behavior.
Social science principles inform ethical frameworks that guide cybersecurity work.
Analysts mostly solve complex issues in privacy, data usage, and surveillance. As analysts,
we should answer questions like: How do we protect privacy while still monitoring threats?
What data is worth protecting?
Social science research helps the professional’s develop new and improved
policies. For example, maybe adopting a utilitarian perspective can change how a
company thinks, and how the approach data and information. Cyber decisions are not just
technical, they consider what happens in real life, and what groups are affected by their
decisions.
Cybersecurity analyst must also consider how marginalized groups, such as LGBTQ
people, and immigrants, are target in plenty of cyber threats. Studys have shown that
marginalized populations often have less access to cybersecurity resources. For example,
hate groups target certain individuals. A cybersecurity analyst must be able to recognize
these types of patterns and create systems that prioritize keeping these individuals safe
and sound.Analysts also work with the legal experts to advocate for better protection for these
marginalized groups. By applying social science, professionals continue to contribute to
create a safer digital environment.
Cybersecurity is such a collaborative field; cybersecurity analysts work with diverse
teams. Behavior and communication skills are very important in this field. Social sciences
help navigate workplace dynamics and how to manage conflicts. Together they make long-
term strategic plans.
Understanding groups and theory supports cybersecurity teams in handling tough

situations and develops a culture of security. Analysts who interpret social cues and learn
more communication styles will likely be more successful in getting non-technical staff to
understand and engage in practices.
The career of a cybersecurity analyst is far more than just understanding codes and
all the nerd stuff, there are plenty of more things involved. You have to understand human
patterns, social structures, and promote ethical standards. Social sciences can build
more effective and responsive security systems. By addressing the specific needs of
marginalized communities and applying behavioral research, cybersecurity analysts not
only protect data but also advance justice and equity in the digital world.
• Hadnagy, C.
