I have chosen to do a game report on a restreamed NFL Thanksgiving game from 2025. Thanksgiving games have always been comforting to me because they always show heart when playing. Some playoff games will sit out their best players if they already have a guaranteed spot. On Thanksgiving everybody plays their best and it truly shows. Some of the best sports games contain a rise of the underdogs and that is what this game portrays. It is not always fun watching a complete blowout. We should all care about hard-fought games by underdogs because it gives us more hope in life even when the doubts are against us. We all have the ability to rise. Dallas Cowboys often play Thanksgiving football games and that is no different this year as they take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs were favored to beat the Dallas Cowboys this game, and it started off that way in the first quarter. Dak Prescott threw an interception into the arms of defensive Jaylen Watson on the third play of the first drive. Patrick Mohomes did not hesitate to throw a screen pass to Rashee Rice for the first touchdown of the game, putting the Chiefs ahead 7-0. Dak Prescott led his offense down the field, play by play, to throw a touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb to tie the game 7-7. That touchdown pass sent a message to the other team that they can answer right back, despite their rough start. That didn’t slow down the chiefs to score another touchdown on their offensive drive ending with a touchdown pass from Patrick Mohomes to Travis Kelse. Becoming a back-and-forth battle, it is critical that Dallas answers back with their drive. As they gain a couple of first downs, they can only manage to score a field goal out of the drive. Brandon Aubrey is the kicker who rarely misses, even from long ranges. With the score now 14-10 Chiefs lead, Mahomes puts some more passing yards on his stats but ultimately the drive ends in a result of the first punt of the game. Dallas now with the ball driving down the field. With a run play midfield, Malik Davis rushes for a 44-yard touchdown. This is the first rushing touchdown of the game so far. After the extra point, the underdog team Dallas is now in the lead at 17-14. As the chiefs get the ball back, they can’t seem to do too much with it. This drive results in another punt, giving the ball back to Dallas with 12 seconds left before halftime. Dallas decides to go for a run play to wind down the clock into halftime. This is an interesting moment because even though Dallas is currently in a slight lead, the Chiefs are getting the ball at the start of the second half. That Dallas interception in the first drive could be a significant factor in this game.
As the Chiefs receive the ball to start the third quarter, they get a first down but then takes a sack. The sack on second down puts them at third and long, which they cannot progress. Chiefs punting again gives Dallas a chance to maintain their lead as they start at the 1-yard line from the incredible punt by Araiza. Defenses are really showing out right now, as the game started off high scoring, but now punts are becoming more frequent. Speaking of punts, Dallas is not able to drive the ball much and results in a punt back to the Chiefs. The Chiefs get a first down with Mahomes at action. They then get stopped at 4th and short, forcing the Chiefs to punt. The punter Araiza once again puts the ball within the 5-yard line with Knowles checking the ball down. This can make the drive for Dallas more difficult. A running play to Turpin drives the ball to the 40-yard line. Then a deep pass to CeeDee Lamb results in a defensive pass interference, placing the ball on the 20-yard line on the opposing side. The defense plays it more tight, forcing Dallas to kick a field goal. Brandon Aubrey puts the score at 20-14. Chiefs now with the ball, Mahomes plays aggressively completing passes to Rashee Rice and Kareem Hunt. Rice is a huge help this drive, bringing the ball to the redzone and now completing a touchdown pass! The extra point now puts Kansas City up by one, 21-20. Dallas remains confident running the ball well with Javonte Williams. A pass to George Pickens is completed, then some a juke move and a hurdle over the opponent! Cowboys are now at the goal line, with another catch from Pickens placing them at the 3-yard line. Dak now fakes a quarterback run but passes it to Williams for the touchdown! Realizing that it is the 4th quarter, Dallas goes for a 2-point conversion to put them ahead by 7 and Pickens reels it in. Kansas City now with the ball and Dallas’s defense is really powerful tonight. Another punt for Kansas City as they have had more punts than Dallas tonight. Dak lets it go deep to Lamb for a huge completion. With completion after completion, they get the ball to the 10-yard line where they are forced to kick a field goal. Aubrey makes the score 31-21 with just over 5 minutes left to play. Mahomes makes a deep completion of his own! Another touchdown pass by Mahomes following the completion. Up by 3 with 3 minutes left to play, Cowboys continue to play aggressively while draining the clock.
The score finalizes at 31-28 and Dak Prescott is named the Madden MVP of the game. He threw for 320 yards and 2 passing touchdowns. He spread the ball around effectively with the offense including 6 players all having over 20 receiving yards each. Lamb had an impressive 112-yard game. Also, 3 different players rushed for over 30 yards each. The defense had two sacks by Clowney and one for Fowler Jr. Even the reporter after the game stated that the award could pretty much go to anyone on the team because of how well they all played. That is the beautiful concept of Thanksgiving football. Also, the celebration afterwards is one of the best year-around celebrations because you see the players enjoying a giant cooked turkey made for the winning team. Seeing how thankful they are and being able to enjoy the holiday after a hard-fought game is positive energy. In the interview CeeDee Lamb gets questioned about his last game not being as sufficient and what his mentality was going into this game to bounce back. He stated, “Next game is always going to be my best one, that is my mentality.” That is true sport inspiration.
