As we have learned in class, the sport communication environment has gone through seismic changes in the last decade, with the pace of change accelerating every year. My current sport media consumption \u201cdiet\u201d is mainly streaming on the ESPN app and live broadcast when it streams on streaming services such as Paramount Plus, Peacock, and HBO Max. Football and basketball games are usually my main sport focus. It has certainly changed from 5 years ago when I had cable and have to watch the games live with not much control over being able to rewind, pause, or fast-forward. Fox and CBS were the two sports channels that I watched the most on basic cable. Technology now holds a strong connection with sport communication in various ways. For example, I like to stream sport games on my phone or tablet so that I can do multiple things at once like. Other media apps are a huge source as well because when I look on Facebook and Instagram, I always see brand new clips\/highlights of a game that is currently being played. Even if you google the game currently being played, usually important new highlights will automatically appear at the top, despite it just happening. Gambling apps like FanDuel and DraftKings are also a new feature to consume sport media, as sometimes they will have the finalized score a few seconds before the actual stream. This is where I see bigger changes occurring in the next 5 years. I believe that because there is money to be made on both sides, sport media consumption will lean into it more. I also think the new AI features can have some kind of evolved impact on sport media. If I could wave around a magic wand and make one change to the sport communication landscape it would be the obvious feature that we all want, free streaming on games without having to pay to subscribe to apps. In terms of the company being paid for each particular viewership of the game, allowing the app to be free will bring in more viewership. Tubi, for example, is a great free app that has sport media live streams every once in a while.
