Nursing has always peaked my interest due to my interactions with nurses in my own and my family members&#8217; lives. However, it was my great-grandmother&#8217;s cancer diagnosis that piqued my curiosity and inspired me to pursue a career as a nurse. My GG had the most amazing care from her nurses, and it was this experience that made me realize that nursing would be a fantastic fit for my personality. I possess many of the qualities that those wonderful nurses had, including kindness, self-assurance, compassion, teamwork, and patience. My GG&#8217;s cancer experience is also one of the reasons I want to advance my career as an oncology nurse. This form of nursing captures my attention because it strives to improve the lives of cancer patients. Making a difference in the lives of any cancer patient would, for me, be immensely touching and gratifying. Additionally, I am confident that my GG would be proud to know that I am helping others in their fight against the disease that she unfortunately did not overcome. After discussing my aspirations with my primary care pediatrician, I was fortunate to be offered the opportunity to shadow two nurses at my pediatric practice during my 10th grade year. It truly offered me a firsthand look at nurses&#8217; responsibilities and approaches to the various circumstances they face. Overall, the opportunity helped me improve my knowledge of nurses and, additionally, helped me fully commit to my major.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I intend to major in nursing.
