The most important was to explain the differences between high school and college. It was an easy assignment where I made only few mistakes in clarity and syntax. It gives me a clear idea of what I need to do to improve for essay 2. I need to pay more attention to my word choice and the sentence errors. I did a good introduction and my argument were clearly explained and detailed.

At the end of week five my writing skills improved. I do few mistakes and I pay more attention to my word choice. However I still have to work on the sentence errors. During the peer review for essay one I was reviewer and writer in the same time. I exchange my draft with the draft of someone else in the class and I reviewed her draft while she reviewed mine. However, I am not able to review an essay as good as my comrades because I am not a native English speaker.

I have no problem to participate to a peer-review as a writer. I mean it is not a problem to show my work to someone else than the teacher because It can only help me to improve. Furthermore the student who review my work can notice some errors that the teacher saw but didn’t mark as errors on my work and reciprocally. On the other hand I am not very comfortable to review the work on someone else even though I understand clearly the text. I think it is my limit as a non native English speaker. I need to continue to improve my English level to be able to review the work of someone else and identify clearly the mistakes he or she did.

The lesson about the connectors, which was covered in class, was very useful to me. When I worked on my essay after this lesson I replace some connectors by those I learned in the lesson such as: on the other hand, therefore or furthermore. However, I didn’t over my essay neither with a writing instructor in BAL 3036 nor a writing tutor in the Writing Center. I think by doing that I could have avoided my mistakes and work on them before submitting my final draft.

In conclusion, I did a good work with a good introduction and my arguments were structured and clear. However, I need to work on the word choice and the sentence errors to improve my writing. I will also need to go to tutor review in the Writing Center or with my instructor during her office hours to avoid those mistakes in the future.

1)

In high school the students follow a system which is already created for them. In College, they need to create the system themselves. They became their own boss. It is no longer the responsibility of the teacher if they do not pass the class. However, organizing their studies and their life and finding the balance between study and social life… are not so difficult. The worst enemy of a college student is to keep working regularly. A lot of students just give up and stop working after few weeks.

2)

My favorite sport is karate. It is one of the most famous sports in the self-defenses categories. It is my favorite sport because it came along with self-control and physical activity. Self control is my biggest weakness; however, since I began to practice karate, I became more patient, calmer and more confident both at school and at home. Even if this weakness will not disappear, it became less problematic. I think karate helped me to become the person that I am today.

3)

I was born in 2001. In the same year my native country lost one of the oldest singers in her history. I am talking about Charles Trenet who died at the Henri-Mondor’s hospital in Creteil. He was 87 years old when he died. He was known as “le fou chantant” which means “the singing fool” in English. He was well known for many songs such as Fleur bleue, Douce France, Je chante and many others. In English it means blue Flower, sweet France and I sing. My parents like those songs and his death make a lot of French people sad including some government’s members.

4)

When I started high school, I was in France, where high school begins at grade ten. I was already prepared on: how to take notes? What do I put in my notes?

On this point, I thank the French school system. I learned the golden rule which is:”write only the structure and the important points such as topic, properties and formulas if I am in math or science. However, the beginning was really hard because I had to identify what was important and what were useless details.

5)

My favorite activity after school is reading novels. I read approximately two novels every two weeks. My favorite type of novel is heroic fantasy. It is about werewolves, vampires, magic, dragons, conspiracy and imaginary worlds. However, I read also detective novels, and sometimes I find some interesting historical novels. I go to library almost every week. It is like a drug to me.

editing checklist complete for essay 1 pdf version

The topic of my essay one was: Transition from High School to College.
