One of the proudest moments of my life was the day I was honored with the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal from the United States Navy. As one of the few to receive this medal I was immensely grateful. This award came at the end of my second back-to-back deployment, the first of which broke the record for consecutive days out to sea without docking at a port at 206 days (CVN 69). While onboard I earned a reputation of being hardworking and very knowledgeable of my area of expertise, constantly performing at two levels above my pay grade. I was rewarded by being put in charge of the ship’s Alarms division. During my second deployment there were time when critical equipment malfunction and I sacrificed sleep and meals to restore the equipment to its readiness status. Among that and other reasons I was awarded the “NMAM.”
