Agent orange is a chemical that they used in the Vietnam war to kill enemy troops, but sometimes they kill or injured their own troops by accident. But they also called it the “Operation Ranch Hand.” They used it to kill the enemies that were in the forest cover and the crops of the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops. This is what the Government uses as an herbicidal warfare. They had different names for Agent Orange like Agent Orange 1, Agent Orange 2, Agent Orange 3, and “Super Orange.” Which is explained on how each chemical has a different strength to it.

The Dixon that is in Agent Orange contained trash incineration; burning gas, oil and coal; cigarette smoking and in different process bleach was also added. Over 20 million gallons was sprayed over Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos from 1961-1971.This chemical was also sprayed through trucks and hand-sprayers around the U.S. military bases.

The effect that this chemical has is very crucial. It makes you exposed to cancer, birth defects, rashes, severe psychological and neurological problems. If your skin in infected by it, it can cause numerous injuries. It causes skin cancer, and when it gets exposed to the skin it causes the skin to look like teenage acne, but at the same time it causes the skin to become severe and painful. When we get acne, it forms an overactive glands, but when you get infected by the chemical the glands break down and cause the skin to change and form into cysts. Other things that can happen to you is developing respiratory cancer, and also cause Leukemia and Hodgkin’s disease. This chemical can also affect a human’s offspring. Because since the chemical is exposure to the skin, and causes liver cancer it can spread to the offspring’s and causes deformities, so then when they have children, they can be exposed to the chemical. Then that causes miscarriage’s in women.

The chemical also effected the environment as well. When the plants get exposed the chemical the plants begin to grow rapidly, and then causes the plants to dry out. When the trees get exposed to the chemical the trees begin to turn black, and causes an odor in the air from the trees. When the chemical gets into the soil it causes the jungles thickness to stop growing after the monsoon rain. Because that’s what anchors the tress growth. The chemical is in the fatty tissue in bodies of fish, birds and other animals. They have found it in traces of food from the animals that they eat in Bien Hoa City. The U.S aircraft sprayed it over douse roads, rivers, canals, rice paddies and farmland. But also, their water supply was contaminated by this chemical as well. This is significant to today because a lot of our troops are still struggling with this disease. And there are still traces of Agent orange in Vietnam today. Even though this is a dangerous chemical to be around certain places use it for their own benefits.
