CYSE 301: Cyber Techniques and Operations is the course that helps you establish fundamental skills within cybersecurity, especially through practical-based learning environments with Linux. The class included weekly assignments covering various elements of Linux and cybersecurity practice over the course of the semester. The very first assignment was learning Linux commands. This assignment took me through the navigation of a linux system, commands to manage files and directories, and how the command line is constructed. It was my first time using Linux, but the reason it is significant is that this very step laid the foundation to everything else in the course. Understanding how to navigate and manipulate files made me understand more of what happens in the background of operating systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I gained valuable experiences that enabled me to fine-tune and hone my attention to detail, problem-solving abilities and adaptability. Following instructions carefully and debugging when things were not happening as described was part of the learning process in learning Linux commands. It forced me to be patient with myself and open to learning something entirely different; that same value makes all the difference in the field of cybersecurity. Understanding Linux is a relevant skill set that relates to this assignment and my personal and professional goals, as most technology, networking, and cybersecurity careers revolve around some use of Linux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most priceless treasure I would show on this page is screenshots of me successfully executing different Linux commands, because they are direct proof that I can live in that environment.
