5. What ethical issues might arise related to what I am working on?
Ethical issues that may arise when working on a drone consultant company are the ‘big
brother’ aspects society does not favor. “Big brother” Is the belief that technology can be used to
monitor individuals in their everyday life without their knowledge or consent. These practices
are real, and countries like China have already implemented them in their social system.
Although W.A.V.E looks to work with government organizations and police departments, there
is no support for ‘big brother’ actives on individuals who are bystanders to potentially harmful
events. This factor could hurt the relationship with W.A.V.E and the public view when we
establish products to minimize the harm that may come to police and individuals alike. Drones
are dispensable, easily replaced; people’s lives aren’t, though. The trade-off is that some drone
footage may pick up individuals who are just in the vicinity of a drone in usage.
