For English and health professions I do not have to do much studying, it is mostly just doing the assignments and turning them in. For chemistry and sociology, I have to actually put in time outside of class to study and better understand the material for quizzes, tests, and exams. For chemistry, I like to take notes and go over the power points. Since chemistry is my hardest class this semester I took Ashley’s advice and watched the youtube videos she suggested. The lady in the video explained it in a better way for me to understand than my chemistry teacher does in class so I am definitely going to use the youtube videos in the future. For sociology, I take a lot of notes during class and outside of class because it is a lot of terminologies we have to remember for quizzes and exams.

In class, I like to put my phone in my bag so it is not a distraction and I like to take notes of the PowerPoint the teacher is showing or anything important that the teacher says during class. Outside of class, I like to set aside as much time as possible to go over all my resources. I like to go over the power points on my own outside of class and email my teacher about any questions I have. I like to put on music or a show I have already watched and put my phone on do not disturb so I won’t get any notifications so it is easier for me to stay focused on the task at hand. I think the class I am doing the best at is probably English. I think what is helping me the most in this class is utilizing my class time as much as possible. Anytime we get a writing assignment I like to start it during class so it is less for me to outside of class. Another thing that I think is helping me get good grades on my assignments is I have been sending all my assignments to my professor so she can go over my assignment, make comments, corrections and give me feedback. After she does that she emails it back to me with comments and feedback so before I turn in my final draft I can make all the corrections so I can get the best grade possible.

Chemistry is the class I am experiencing the most challenges in. Some strategies I could use are making study groups with people in my class to hear other ways people do the problems. I also have thought about finding a tutor to help me with things that are not clear to me so I can get a better understanding. Anytime my professor has review sessions I try to go just to get more practice on what we are learning. The amount of time I set aside for this class depends on how well I understand the material we are currently learning. If the chapter we are currently learning does not make that much sense to me I spend more time going over the material until I start to understand. I like to study and do homework right after my chemistry class until my next class since it is fresh on my mind. I also like to study late at night right before I get into bed because it is a way to wind myself down to go to sleep. If I have an exam coming up I like to go over everything but like to spend more time going over the things that are more difficult for me. I think I could take more advantage of the learning supports around me like going to tutoring and review sessions. I plan on taking more advantage of those options in the future, especially for midterms and finals. I have more motivation than ever because all I want is to do is to get into ODU’s nursing program and I know grades and my GPA are very important to get into the program here so I study way more than I have in the past because my motivation is getting into the nursing program and I will do whatever it takes to get accepted. For any confusion, I like to ask my teacher in person or through email so they can explain it better or use other resources online. I think going over my notes and watching youtube videos really helped me get a better understanding of the material. For my next exam, I plan on going to the review sessions and getting a tutor because I think those things will help me get a better score on the next exam. I think after we get our test back it is helpful to go over the answer key to see everything you got wrong so you can better understand why you got it wrong and see how to get the right answer. I can strengthen my listening skills so I can understand what the teacher is saying during class. I can try using my tutoring and academic resources outside of class to get a better understanding.

In high school, I did not nearly care as much as I do now so I have been trying new study techniques to improve my grades as much as possible.
