Within a SCADA system are different subsystems that all play significant roles in the success of the system. I believe that these SCADA systems are more important than ever. As the world continues to grow and advance industrially, a faster method to collect data and allocate essential resources is crucial to succeed in the business world.

Vulnerabilities in Critical Infrastructure Systems
Like any connected system, critical infrastructure systems (CIS) are susceptible to vulnerabilities that can be exploited by unwanted users. Like SCADA systems, many components of these CIS systems run on outdated and old software that may not receive needed patches, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and malware. Another possible vulnerability comes from a lack of encryption in data. Important data transferred within these CIS systems may not be properly encrypted, making it vulnerable to interception and tampering, which can compromise the confidentiality of this information. Finally, human factors such as insider threats, human error, and inadequate cybersecurity training among employees pose big threats to these systems. Attacks targeting untrained employees can result in unauthorizes access, simply due to the lack of training.

Mitigation Techniques
To mitigate these vulnerabilities within the systems, companies must approach them using different techniques. Regular security assessments, software updates, proper employee training, implementing strong access controls, and possibly collaborating with government agencies to share info are just a few techniques these businesses can use. Additionally, sticking to security standards and best practices set by higher-up companies can help enhance the overall health of SCADA systems.

Conclusion
In conclusion, SCADA systems are extremely important to businesses, and often under looked. Safeguarding these systems is essential for maintaining the reliability, safety, and security of critical infrastructure, protecting public health and safety, and preserving national security and economic stability.

Works Cited
“SCADA Systems.” SCADA Systems, www.scadasystems.net/.
