I am interested in cybersecurity because it is complex and a much broader subject than people often believe it to be. I think cybersecurity is a very important field that we should put more time into learning and understanding so that we can improve upon it. However, it isn’t something only a select few can look into. Cybersecurity is not simply online security alone, it can involve several other different fields of study. Some majors offered at ODU related to cybersecurity include: Information Systems and Technology, Cyber Operations, Computer Engineering, and Criminology and Criminal Justice. Information Systems and Technology major provides students with business and technical skills, as well as, knowledge on systems and a basis for information technology. Business directly ties with cybersecurity seeing as many companies utilize online resources and information security is very important. Which means that for those in a business and organizational position, it is greatly beneficial to have an understanding on information technology and\/or cybersecurity. As for Cyber Operations, this major goes over everything pertaining to cybersecurity as well as other related areas of operation. This is great because it not only teaches what cybersecurity is but related topics and their importance. Then Computer Engineering also pertains to cybersecurity because it goes into depth on the hardware and software of technology. Having a good understanding of the engineering aspects behind hardware and software in technology is greatly beneficial. Especially when communicating with cybersecurity teams and problem solving in order to improve the security of a system or device. Finally, Criminology and Criminal Justice is related to cybersecurity because cybercrimes are a major problem today and they are only increasing. In the past cybercrimes haven\u2019t been properly dealt with in the changing of times. Laws and those in the justice system will have to learn and understand cybercrimes \/ cybersecurity in order to adjust. There are also issues pertaining to privacy and customer rights when it comes to their information being stored and protected by companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
