Professors Daniel Richards (Department of English), Karen Higgins (School of Nursing), Kathryn Schwartz (Department of Communication Disorders and Special Education), Pilar Pazos-Lago (Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering), and Sandeep Kumar (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) are conducting research on students’ perceptions of writing in their major courses. The research results will be used towards preparing scholarly publications on writing in the disciplines. We are seeking informal input from students to questions in the following areas:
What students see as the characteristics and standards of “good writing” in the disciplines in which they are majoring;
The experiences, courses, and written materials that have helped them learn how to write
The students’ favorite types of writing, in school and otherwise; and
How they have been encouraged as writers and how they would advise younger writers.
