Forms of deviance that come to mind are things like sexual harassment, gossiping, skating (being unproductive), hostility\/aggressive behavior, stealing, property damage. In the time before cyber technology individuals could still carry out all these actions, just not through the medium of technology. In modern times its &#8220;easier&#8221; because you don&#8217;t have to be face to face or physically present in order to carry out these forms of deviance. Harassment can come in the form of emails and Slack messages rather than group meetings or verbal interactions. In terms of stealing and theft banks can be &#8220;robbed&#8221; with hacking instead of at gunpoint. Cron jobs and logic bombs could be useful to disgruntled employees looking to get back at their organization. In my own organization, The US Navy, I do see how telephones and digital platforms such as slack or GroupMe have created new opportunities for &#8220;skating&#8221; or getting out of certain activities. For instance, in the times before cell phones morning muster (roll call for your division) was done face to face. In order to be counted you had to be physically present at your appointed place of duty. These days and especially once Covid\/Telework became the norm skating become infinitely easier. Instead of having to physically be at a location, i can &#8220;phone muster&#8221;, post a message on slack, that I&#8217;ll be at such and such until X time and then be at other location. Whether or not I am actually at this place may or may not be true, but because we are using phones to communicate i can check to see if the division chief or Workcenter supervisor is in yet or has left which makes skating easer as well. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
