Cybersecurity is not a &#8220;profit center&#8221;, it does not generate revenue for the company and is instead a &#8220;cost center&#8221;. You are going to need hardware, software, trained staff, licenses, legal consultants, there are also recruitment costs. You will also need money for training the people you bring on board as cybersecurity staff. You may also need to hire pen testers time to time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to software and licenses you will need to purchase many different licenses to be able to fully operate SIEM tools. These are tools analysts use to monitor your IT infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiring the right people also comes with a major price. You need to market and recruit the top talent and be willing to train them while they are at your company. Id say a basic cybersecurity professional with 0 experience would start around $50k\/yr at the absolute lowball minimum. Add in relevant experience and a strong resume, and it can range from $75-150k\/yr. Senior personnel can expect more than that. It is not cheap to properly protect your digital assets and online activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will also need to work with legal experts in order to guarantee your compliant with data retention and storage requirements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The benefits are that you can have more faith that your assets and infrastructure are somewhat safer and that at the minimum your compliant with standards and have applied due care and due diligence. There is no guarantee your data is 100% safe. However, with sophisticated Information Security professionals and the right tools and mechanisms in place you are in great shape. Talent is what matters and thats the race you are entering.
