Physiological, Safety, Belongingness, Esteem, Self-actualization.

I do not have any physiological needs associated w/ technology personally. I remember a time w/o cell phones and constant access to internet. You had to do things in person and didn’t have an app. I believe in keeping cash in your car/wallet in case debit cards or cashless payments aren’t available for whatever reason. For a lot of people though I do believe technology is a physiological need. They would not be able to provide for themselves if “the system” was down for an extended amount of time. Once people couldn’t fill up or charge their cars and are unable to buy anything such as food/groceries it’s a matter of time before chaos sets in. Look at the panic that was caused in the Southeast when the colonial pipeline hack occurred and people couldn’t get gas for a short time. How many modern systems rely on electricity and computing systems? Alot.

Security – I definitely feel safer/ more secure when I have my devices. I have a means to contact people, find places, pay for things, and feel connected to whoever i may need to get in touch with. Once your phone dies and you cannot charge it, that feeling of “I’m on my own for a bit” sets in which can be a bit unsettling if you’re unsure of your surroundings.

Belongingness – There are a lot of communities and content online that cater to certain people or interests. Being able to interact with a lot of people who share common interest isn’t always possible in real life, so the internet provides a means to connect with like-minded people.

Esteem – Unsure. I think this goes both ways. You can do things that aid your growth and also feel as if you aren’t doing enough or are behind.

Self-actualization – access to online learning platforms enhances opportunities for personal growth and self-actualization.

Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relatesto your experiences with technology.
