I love doing nice things for people. I believe acts of kindness help make me who I am as a person today. Assignment 5 helped me better myself even more as a person. I grew with this assignment because I changed someone’s life, even if it was for a quick second or two. Acts of kindness should be done because we want to, not because we feel like we have to or to get something back from it. This assignment showed me how little things can truly make someone’s day. Acts of kindness don’t have to be big and involve money, sometimes all it takes is opening a door.

This is from my favorite movie, “The Help.” Acts of kindness can go a long way and make someone feel important.

ATA 2:

From this assignment, I learned about the idea of self concept, which helps us define who we are. Throughout the assignment, I discussed why I chose pictures and why those pictures represent me and my true self. Although I chose photos that represent my true self, we all have different selves. These selves change based on who we are around and who we are trying to be. This assignment reminded me about the concepts we learned about from the first assignment, heuristics, but specifically the representativeness heuristic. If someone saw one of the pictures I chose, they might think I was a pageant girl or someone who loves wearing dresses. In reality, I hate dresses. That me in that picture wasn’t the real me, it was the me my grandma wanted me to be for prom night. This assignment helped me reflect on who I am and why I am where I am in life right now. I enjoyed going through my photos and reminiscing, it added excitement to this assignment.

This picture is from prom, one of the best nights of my life. While I would have rather been in sweats and a T-Shirt, my true self, I chose to make my family happy and wear a dress.

ATA 1:

From this assignment, I learned about the different heuristics that people use to make decisions and judgments about people, places, and things. Those heuristics are the representativeness, availability, anchoring and adjustment, and status quo. With the representativeness heuristic, the more someone resembles a group, the more likely they are to be a part of that group. The availability heuristic helps us make judgements on the probability of events by how quickly and easily examples come to mind. We are more likely to see the anchoring and adjustment heuristic with sales. You have a starting price, negotiations get mad, and then you make an adjustment to that price. The status quo heuristic deals with people sticking to what they already know. When dealing with heuristics, one must understand that they can cause problems, such as inaccurate judgements, biases, and prejudice. I learned about these heuristics in my AP Psychology course in high school. We watched several videos about them and took a quiz that dealt with the heuristics we learned, availability and representativeness. The anchoring and adjustment and status quo heuristics were new to me. These were relevant to me because I use them and see them in my every day life. When I see a group of people in suits or nice clothing, I assume they work in an office or in a position of authority. When I buy my first car, the anchoring and availability heuristic will likely come into play when it comes time to get a set price on the car I want. These are just a few of the examples of how heuristics play into my life.

This picture represents the ending of the anchoring and adjustment heuristic, specifically when I buy my new car.
