Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.
The development of computers have had a serious impact on the world. They have integrated themselves into almost every aspect of our lives and continue to improve with different tasks and needs. Computers have helped make the world safer, but also have created different issues that were never present before.
Three ways computers and technology have made the world a safer place:
- Increased security:
With the development of computers, there have been many different softwares and security processes implemented to help with protecting us and our data. Not only has data protection been a focus, different technological devices have helped with the physical security as well. Whether it is making sure that our home is fully locked and protected or making sure that no one can access our banks, computers have found themselves in every aspect.
2. Access to information:
Computers have made it very easy to access all kinds of information that wasn’t accessible before. Schools and different educational institutions have benefited immensely from the use of computer systems.
3. Ease of communication:
Computers have made it extremely easy to communicate with one another. Through the rise of social media sites and different phone systems, we can now contact one another instantly. This helps with emergency situations along with an endless amount of other situations.
Three ways computers and technology have made the world less safe:
- Cyber-criminal platforms:
Since the development of computers, criminals have taken advantage of it for sure. The Dark Web was created by the Navy, but now harbors some of the biggest illegal marketplaces and criminal activity sites ever before. Computers make it very easy for criminals to communicate and carry out some of their crimes.
2. Quick access to PII:
Similar to the first point, criminals (or anyone) can sometimes have very quick access to personal information. Without the proper security measures and privacy laws, people can access personal data in very short amounts of time. This is a harsh reality that we face with the creation of computers.
3. Dependence:
Lastly, some people have become completely dependent on these technologies. A lot of individuals are finding themselves addicted and unable to go without them. They spend majority of their time on these devices and this dependence has been explored in multiple disciplines. This is a negative reality that some people face with the creation of computers.
