After taking this course, I have learned exactly that to some extent, I am excited to further extend my knowledge and continue to apply what I have learned in this class with real life situations. My attitude for Social Psychology has only grown to become more attentive towards it and I have become more intrigued by it. I personally think I did a great job achieving the course objective and there is not much I would do differently if I were to take this class again. Over the past several months, I have grown academically as I have better solidified my interest in the Psychology field and its interaction with the Criminal Justice field. It is thanks to this class that I know this is a field I would like to pursue a future in as I will better understand why individuals, including criminals and victims act the way they that they do.

Photo Credits: https://www.thesociologicalcinema.com/blog/killing-with-impunity-a-discussion-about-racism-in-the-criminal-justice-system

I am choosing this image to represent my academic growth throughout this course because through this course, I have learned that in order to understand crime and law in America today, we first have to get an understanding of current day American Society. In many of my post, I have discussed how just a few years ago, my mental health was in a bad place, and I no longer felt the will or strength to continue. Connecting to those post, several of my other post focus on how my time in the military had its positive and negative impacts on my mental health and how my family is the ultimate reason why I have grown stronger and why my mental health has seen improvement. Over the past 5 years, I have found new friends, found old friends, as well as lost old friends. More recently, during my hardest times, I realized how my true circle of people were, the ones that were good for my mental health versus the ones that were not; and after several traumatic experiences and mental health battles, I have found my true circle and disengaged with those that were toxic to and or for me. In Introduction to Sociology, Disengagement Theory is discussed and seen as being related to age. Disengagement Theory is a theory that suggest that with age, individuals grow, as society does, causing for many relationships within an individual’s life to become severed. As we grow, we lose friends, and our circle becomes smaller and smaller.

One of the steps that I went through when doing this assignment was looking at what photos I had posted on my e-Portfolio. Nathan DeWall explains a different take on how relationships evolve and how the change over time. This article talks of the differences in how men and women view relationships and the different stages in a relationship. My thoughts on this article are that it holds a lot of information and truth to it. From my own experience, the interest of a women versus the interest of a man in a relationship can sometimes be on completely different sides of the spectrum. This article discusses how in relationships and dating, men think from below the waist when while women think from above the waist. This causes a different view for both genders and creates for conflicts in relationships. Some examples of how men and women think different in relationships in how they anger each other. In my experience, I have seen women anger men by taking control away from them, misleading them, and friend-zoning the men. Ways that men have angered women in my experience have been by catcalling or sexually harassing them. Ways that I have experienced or seen men anger or annoy women are by taking their words out of context or looking or talking about other females around them.

Men focus more on sexual relationships when thinking about relationships, their conflicts compared to females can be less complex.

Women are more family and future oriented when considering partners for relationships. A person’s emotions effect not only their mental health but can also affect physical and psychological health. Learning to Self-Regulate your emotions will allow you to strengthen your Emotional Intelligence and, in turn will allow you to live a healthier life. Emotions can be affected by stress levels, anxiety levels, thoughts, thought processing, and so forth. So Emotional Intelligence is what is done with your emotions, how it is perceived, used, and managed. An example of how my EQ is sometimes displayed is when my husband criticizes my handy work around the house or with a crafting project. The way I react shows my EQ. If he were to tell me I could have done something differently and I were to get defensive with him, saying “well you have never done this before so you do not know what you are talking about” and I do not take his criticism and opinion into consideration, I would be demonstrating a lower EQ as I would be letting my emotions cloud my mind. However, I could improve my EQ by allowing myself to be more open-minded to my husband’s criticism and use his criticism as advice and for improvement. Allowing the open-mindedness allows for me to improve my thinking and self-regulating. This also teaches me to be more willing with criticism.

Over the past several years, I have grown to learn to understand my emotions better and how to better manage them. The sexualization and objectification of women has been something that has been a key topic and discussion point for me for sever years. Over the past several years, I have seen an increase in companies using women and you girls to promote their products, but what some of these companies do not realize, or they do realize but just do not care, is that they are creating a culture that views women as mere objects and this is lessening the worth of females. It is one of the many reasons why many women suffer from depression and low self-esteem, we are constantly looking at an unrealistic ideology of what “the perfect women” looks like. This video allows for more people to acknowledge the truth behind these companies’ ways of promotion. What these companies are doing is not only unacceptable and disgusting, but it is also a contributing factor to the rape culture that has grown in this country.

<div class="wp-block-group This is a course where the material and the information learned is very intriguing to me and something that can be very helpful in my future. The thing that has helped me most to prepare for Exam 1 is the mobile app of the textbook, Revel. This app has been wonderful as the text has interesting information. I, like many other people, spend a lot of my free time on my phone, so having this app and an interest in the material, I have slowly been reading a chapter each day from my phone. This has allowed me to gain ample amounts of information, then on different days throughout the week, I review that provided material on Blackboard and review the Jeopardy. I believe one other thing that helped me do so well on this exam was creating flash cards with the Jeopardy questions and also applying the material learned into real life aspects. Although I did not have any incorrect answers, there were a few questions I second guessed myself on while taking the exam, as several of the questions were scenario based, applying the learned material into real life when learning it was most helpful. I feel that if I continue with this way of studying and reviewing, I will do well in my future exams.

This is a screenshot of the Revel mobile app that has been my main source for this class. Music brings a strong connection in relationships. Between me and my husband, music has been a large part of our relationship. With me and him having a long-distance relationship for over 3 years, music was a key component for communication when we would not be able to find our own words. We would pick songs and send them to each other during different times, during happy times, during hard times, even during times close to breaking up, music kept us together because it allowed us to show each other what we wanted to say but could not find the words, it allowed me to show my husband how much I valued him and our love and our friendship when my own words failed me. Music allowed both me and my husband to discover that we both have the same ideas and beliefs about love, life, family, and so much more. One song that I think about when reading this article and writing this blog is NF’s song called “Time.” This was a song that both me and my husband used during our hard times to tell each other that neither of us were done fighting for us, that we still loved each other, but that we needed time to figure things in our own separate lives out. To tell each other that it was not because of a lack of love that was driving us apart, but other circumstances and that we still loved each other very much. This allowed us both to realize that we both needed to take a step back from our relationship and focus on ourselves while still being there for each other and supporting each other. I believe that this song is one of the songs that saved mine and my husband’s relationship and now this month marks six years that we have been together.

I am choosing this visual to represent my third blog because this is exactly how I would send it to my husband. My only fall back is my time management for assignments due. I personally feel that I do much better on assignments when I am forced to get it complete unless it is something that is very interesting to me, and I will spend several days reviewing the material over and over. My level of confidence is relatively high, I think this is primarily due to my time in the military and needing to adapt to any situation at any given minute. This skill has allowed me to grow my confidence. I think a factor that I need to focus on improving is my time management and concentration for certain things. My General Self-Efficacy (GSE) scale is very accurate as I scored an average of 3. I think my confidence level is higher than the average because of my experience in the military.

The Marine Corps Way
My time as a Marine has instilled in me the ability to improvise, adapt, and to overcome any situation that comes in my way.

Blog 1:

This course has the objective to teach students how to create and test hypotheses relating to the behaviors of people and groups. Along with this objective, learning how to understand one another as well as understanding how influential factors may affect relationships and behaviors.

These objectives will aid in my future as I am personally interested in working closely with victims. The information learned in this course will allow me to profile and better understand why people behave the way they do and what different factors may be influencing their acts. I will also be able to profile the targeted victims to get a better understanding of why they were targeted or victimized.

Why do people do what they do?

My expectations for this course are to learn as much about how behavior is influenced by external and internal factors and to learn how these behaviors are processed psychologically by individuals, as well as groups. I am hoping to gain more knowledge on how to better read and interpret people based on their behaviors and to understand the psychologically by their actions.

I intend to implement a self-application point-of-view in this class and with all the information gained in this course to succeed; to imagine myself when learning new information and seeing how the information applies to me personally.

Monkey see… Monkey do?
This was a social experiment that was conducted to test conformity.
